Ice, Ice, Iceland

It was raining and cold as I hurriedly drag my luggage to the waiting bus, the 100 meter dash across unsheltered terrain of the Keflavik Airport sent a momentary shiver down my spine; the temperature must be less than 10C, a far cry from the 40C I just left behind some 30 hours ago. As the shuttle got its fill of passengers, we traversed along what seems to be a moss covered, lava-hardened landscape going to the capital city of Reykjavik, I was seated on the front row, and can clearly see the chaotic raindrops on the windshield while dark clouds and fog appear to stretch beyond the horizon, and I wondered, is this the kind of weather I’ll be experiencing for the next 8 days of my stay in Iceland and consequently, my very first visit to Europe? Fortunately the fog lifted, then the rain stopped as we reached Reykjavik; I transferred to another bus for a 20-minute ride, then one more 40-minute bus to finally reach my destination of Selfoss.
