The nation commemorated this morning the National Heroes’ Day at the Libingan ng mga Bayani at Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City with President Benigno S. Aquino III as guest of honor.
Attended by the Armed Forces of the Philippines, different government agencies, foreign ambassadors, aging WWII veterans, boy scouts and girl scouts, students, and members of the general public; the 40-minute ceremony saw the arrival of the presidential convoy at exactly 8am.
The program started with the usual arrival honors accorded by members of the armed forces to the President, then Col. Ernesto R. Cimatu led the opening prayer, followed by a welcome address from Taguig City Mayor Laarni Cayetano, NHCP Chairman Dr. Maria Serena I. Diokno delivered a message, Secretary Voltaire T. Gazmin of the Department of Defense introduced the guest of honor, and finally President Aquino delivered his speech.
Present also during the commemoration were Senator Alan Peter Cayetano and Senator Cynthia Villar.
